Item description from seller

Professor Coursen considers the following plays: "Richard II," "Hamlet," "Othello," King Lear," "Macbeth," and "The Tempest," contending that their author employed received religious tradition as one of the sources of his drama, and that the tradition is discoverable. If these tragedies have, as Coursen claims, profoundly Christian overtones and ramifications, they are yet great drama, not bound in by any "Christian doctrine," or ultimately expressing some explicit "Christian meaning." Included are chapter notes, a bibliography, and an index. This copy is solid with pencil notes on a few pages, and the dust jacket is in mylar.
