About this Item
First impression of the true first edition. ***Very good in dark blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still nice and bright, having been protected by the dustwrapper. No bumps or creases. Corners sharp. Boards clean and unmarked - edges of boards just slightly darkened and rubbed. Internally also very good, with a previous owner's name in ink and a small ink price to the top of the front free end paper. Printed on quality rag-paper. Edges of text-block untrimmed (rough-cut) as is often the case with books published by Faber from this period. Pages clean and bright. Spine tight. ***In a good only dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 6s. net. Edges of dustwrapper rubbed, nicked, creased and browned. Small loss to corners of dustwrapper. Large chip and tears to head and tail of spine. Darkening and rubbing to spine of dustwrapper. Top edge of rear panel of dustwrapper creased and rubbed. ***92 pages including an important thirteen-page introductory essay by the author, Louis MacNeice on the art of broadcast drama to the front, and with two pages of notes to the rear. 230 mm x 150 mm. ***'This book is the text of a long broadcast play on the life of the discoverer of America, which was produced with great success by the B.B.C. last year. Mr. MacNeice has revised this poetic broadcast drama into a form suitable for reading, and prefaced it with an important essay on the art of broadcast drama. The play is itself a remarkable example of that art, but will be of great interest to all the author's admirers, whether they are also listeners or not.' [Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper] ***A wartime produced first edition title by Louis MacNeice, hard to find in its original dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 2247a
