CIVIL ARCHITECTURE THE NEW PUBLIC INFRASATRUCTURE

The author's architecture firm in New York City has completed a wide variety of public projects and won numerous awards. He works and writes with consciousness of the fact that "those who design civil architecture labor at the intersections of their culture's aspirations, political struggles, and available resources" (from the introduction). In this resource he incorporates history, philosophy, and practical concerns along with presentation of case studies of schools, recreation facilities, public shelters, urban parks, and public utilities. Abundantly illustrated with photos (b&w), plans, and drawings. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.

Richard Dattner was Adjunct Professor of Architecture at The Cooper Union and the City College of New York, and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin.
