A clipper was designed for a particular trade and to carry a specialised cargo, oftenaccompanied by passengers, but always with the aim of achieving maximum speed. The cargo was frequently perishable of valuable and the ships that carried could command high rates of freight. Lavishly illustrated throughout with photographs taken from private collections, many published here for the first time. There are also many scale drawings. Essential reading for maritime historians, ship modellers and transport enthusiasts alike. Ref SS3.
