Item description from seller

Octavo, cloth. First edition. Of 1000 copies printed, this is one of 410 unsigned hardbound copies. This copy has the first edition statement on copyright page. In Dick's opinion, this novel was "easily the best of all his mainstream efforts." Written in 1959 in the midst of Dick's "exceedingly ambitious -- and totally unsuccessful -- attempt to break into the mainstream-novel market . Graceful, wry, vulnerable, pessimistic and wise, they are novels less good only than the best of PKD's intense prime, which began immediately [with TIME OUT OF JOINT]." - Clute and Nicholls (eds), The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction (1993), p. 328. A fine copy without dust jacket as issued. (#153021).
