Add to basketHOWARD, Kathleen. CONFESSIONS OF AN OPERA SINGER. NY: Alfred A. Knopf, 1918. 8vo., dark-blue cloth, titles stamped in orange; 273 pages. First Edition. Kathleen Noris [1884-1956] was a Canadian-born opera singer and film actress. She created the role of Zita in Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" at the Metropolitan Opera in 1918 and was memorable as the nagging wife in W.C. Field's movie "It's A Gift" in 1934. Signed presentation from Howard on the front endpaper: "To S.D. Green, This word of a beginning, Kathleen Howard, 1927." She also pens on the last page of the text "and oh! so many more! Kitt, 1927." S.D. Green may be the Bastrop, Texas merchant who helped found the city's Opera House in 1889, which is still operational today as a threatre. Very Good (titles on front cover & spine bright with bit of scattered spotting rear cover; contents clean & tight with crease to lower corner of one rear blank page). An uncommon book and Howard's autograph is scarce! $375.00.
