12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 1st edition. A Good copy. 12 mo., xi, (1) 14-246 pp. Bound in patterned tan cloth, with the title on the spine in gilt. Spine and the front joint are chipped, with a small loss at the foot. The front hinge is starting to crack. Previous owner's penciled name and gift inscription on the front end papers. The text is uniformly foxed, with an occasional page dog-eared. Still a nice copy of a scarce, early New England Methodist religious tract on conversion. ***Timothy Merritt was an eminent Methodist Episcopal minister, born at Barkhamstead, Conn., Oct, 1775. Merritt was an able and powerful writer, an eloquent preacher, an accomplished debater, and in all respects one of the foremost ministers of his time. He was converted about 1792, and entered the New England Conference in 1796. From 1803 to 1818 he was stationed in Boston; in 1822 was at Providence;- in 1825-26 preached at Boston; in 1831 at Malden, and also "devoted much time to the editorship of Zion's Herald;" from 1832 to 1836 was assistant editor of the Christian Advocate and Journal, New York. He died at Lynn, Mass., 1845. ***. Seller Inventory # 002882
