Neatly extracted from a bound volume and expertly mended. The Crown Suits Act, 1769 was one of the early Limitation of Actions laws (or Statutes of Limitations) which set a maximum time period during which a lawsuit could be filed. The ACT prescribed that the right of the Crown to bring actions to recover land was limited to sixty years. If an owner could prove seisin (or possession by freehold) of the land within the sixty preceding years, then ejection was not won by the Crown. If seisin of the prior sixty years was not proven, then title to the land was lost and occupiers ejected. The essence of this legislation is still valid in Canada, and is considered pertinent to ongoing land title litigation and Aboriginal Land Claims issues. Seller Inventory # 229
