Quarto, 119pp., illustrated. A fair to good copy in pictorial stapled wraps. The wraps are partly and precariously loosened from the binding, though it remains roughly intact. Some foxing and general age-toning, and there is an orange wedge-sized chip on the first leaf with some loss, and some minor chipping at the top right corner of the text block. A remarkable ephemeral document the phone directory for Havana from October 1959, dated in the "year of liberation." The Cuban Telephone Company, an American company that owned the Cuban telephone service lines, would be nationalized less than a year later, in 1960. This transitional document was published either by the state or by the company itself, under state control. Under "Cuban Telephone Company" on the first leaf, it reads "Intervencion del gobierno revolucionario." At the top, it reads, in Spanish, "AVISO. Our translation reads: "NOTICE. In accordance with the progress of the Plan for Extensions and Improvements of the Telephone Service that has been developed by the Revolutionary Government, this Supplement No. 1 includes the new installations and changes made in the city of Havana after the publication of the Telephone Directory, 1959 edition. The advancement of these extensions will allow for the continued attention to pending requests as new technical facilities become available." About a dozen full-page advertisements still promote capitalist products, including butter, Volkswagen cars, a local café, Goodrich tires, and more. The lone institutional copy that we could trace is at the Biblioteca National de Cuba Jose Marti in Cuba, which has shared a digital copy with the University of Florida.
