The first edition of this work.In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding.A richly illustrated history of Cambridge University, including its origin, the collegiate system, chapels, degrees, notable figurers and movements and more.Illustrated with seventy-seven colour plates painted by William Matthison, and a folding map at the rear. Collated, complete. Matthison William Matthison wasa watercolourist, many of whose pictures were made into chocolate-box-style postcards.Written by Mildred Anna Rosalie Tuker, who studied Moral Sciences at Newnham College, Cambridge from 1880-1883. She also published a number of articles in the pages of "Votes for Women", the WSPU"s official paper, took part in a number of marches in London in 1908 -1911 and wrote articles on Catholicism which were published in a wide range of periodicals such as "Hibbert"s Journal". In the original decorative cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Marks to the boards. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with occasional spots. Endpapers are age toned. Very Good.
