About this Item
227 S. Mit 10 Textfiguren und 2 Karten (Eastern Mediterranean & Cyprus). Acta Theologica Danica, Vol.XIV // Introduction: "In the Old Testament it is said of Israel`s archenemies, the Philistines, that they came from Caphtor: `Did I not bring Israel out of the land of Egypt? And the Philistines from Caphtor.?`. The Israelites knew that the Philistines were immigrants in the land of Canaan like themselves, and they knew their land of origin. This immigration took place in the early part of the 12th cent.B.C., and already in Old Testament days the identity and geographical position of Caphtor were forgotten. Ezekiel XXV, 15-17 implies that the Philistines came from Crete, but this passage can be proved to be a grabled version of Jeremiah XLVII,4, later interpolated in the text of Ezekiel. It only shows that at the time of this interpolation, the 6th cent.B.C. or later, all actual knowledge of Caphtor had been lost. In modern scholarship the problem acquired a renewed importance when Champollion found the Philistines mentioned in Egyptian inscriptions from the XXth dynasty. At the same time he found paintings in Egyptian tombs, showing foreigners from Keftiu or Kefto among other nationalities. This place was promptly maintained to be the same as Caphtor, later found in the form Kaptara in Semitic inscriptions. Since then various proposals for the identification of Caphtor/Kaptara/Keftiu have been put forward (e.G. Crete, Cyprus, Cilicia, Northern Syria), but [.]. Finally a word about the chronological framework of the present study. As already mentioned the oldest text possibly dates from ca.2300 B.C. and the youngest from ca.300 A.D. or somewhat later [.]" /// Rücken leicht verblasst. ***Die Versandkosten können wegen dem Gewicht der Bücher abweichen----Shippingcosts might be lower or higher by weight of the book.
