24 cm, 232, acid-free paper, references, index, publisher's ephemera laid in, pencil erasure on front endpaper. The memoir was found by the author's son after Giles' death. The author, vice-governor of Guam and executive officer of its naval station, was captured in December 1941 and spent the war in POW camps on Guam and Japan. Includes information on the treatment of POW's by the Japanese, and on medical conditions.
