Pioneered "Bridge to Transplant" Technology: In 1985, Dr. Copeland made medical history at the University of Arizona Medical Center by performing the first successful implant of a Total Artificial Heart (the Jarvik-7) to keep a critically ill patient alive until a human donor heart became available.
