She is the author or coauthor of Giving and Volunteering in the United States (1992), The Nonprofit Almanac: Dimensions of the IndepAndent Sector 1992--1993 (1992), Governing Leading and Managing Nonprofit Organizations (1993). MARGARET GATES is a consultant to nonprofit organizations. As national executive director of Girls Incorporated, she was an advocate for girls and introduced programs to meet the special challenges of girls in contemporary society. She was Deputy Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 19791981.
