Item description from seller

291pp. Octavo [22.5 cm] Blue cloth over boards. Map pastedowns. Spine and front board sunned and a bit discolored. Front hinge a bit soft. Text block cracked at the title page. Frontispiece detached, but present. In a *xeroxed" dust jacket. Original dust jacket not present. A first edition of R. T. Gould's classic examination of the sea-serpent. The author states: " I feel that an apology, or at least an explanation, is necessary for a book dealing with such a 'fo'c'sle yarn' as the sea-serpent. "My excuse must be, that I believe in the sea-serpent. I have long been interested in the subject, and I should have devoted an essay to it in one of my two former books, Oddities and Enigmas, had I not become convinced that it could not be treated in so limited a space.".
