Thick, heavy folio nicely bound in half leather with gilt decorated brown leather spine with 6 raised bands, gilt ruled leather corner pieces and matching brown buckram covered boards, marbled end-papers, top edge gilt. 183pp text plus 1pp additions and corrections at rear, all on stiff thick paper, 22 full page colour printed chromolithographs (frontispiece and 21 others bound in, all with plain paper guards and 18 full page steel engraved plates - al hors text and on stiff art paper, plus engravings in text. Slade bequeathed this legendary collection to the British Museum in 1868 as well as endowing professorships at Oxford and Cambridge (who give the Slade Lectures), and six art scholarships to University College London forming the nucleus of what was to become the Slade School of Art . [CONDITION: Spine and cover corner pieces moderately rubbed with very small spots of wear to cover fore-corner tips. The leaves are all very clean with some mild foxing to plate leaves.
