Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 1905. Decorative cloth boards in near fine condition with bright gilt top edge. Tissue guards are present and in fine condition throughout, protecting all plates cleanly. Coverboards show only a ¼ inch rub at the top front edge near the spine. Page edges are rough cut as issued. Binding is tight, hinges secure, and pages are clean with no markings. Likely a former library reference copy: the bottom of the spine has “Rudy 914.6” handwritten in ink. No other library markings detected. Interior remains crisp, with illustrations well preserved and no foxing beyond normal age toning. Original dust jacket not present, as is typical for this 1905 L.C. Page edition. A handsome early volume from L.C. Page’s Cathedral Series, well cared for and structurally sound. A richly illustrated architectural survey of northern Spain’s most significant cathedrals, Charles Rudy’s 1905 volume blends history, art criticism, and travel writing. Rudy guides the reader through the origins, construction, and stylistic evolution of each cathedral. Romanesque foundations, Gothic expansions, and later Baroque embellishments while highlighting notable sculptures, stained glass, cloisters, and chapels. The book also places each cathedral within its regional cultural context, offering insights into local traditions, patronage, and historical events that shaped these monumental structures. Collectors of early 20th century architectural travel books and readers fascinated by Spain’s historic cathedrals will appreciate this well preserved 1905 volume from L.C. Page’s Cathedral Series. Priced to reflect its true scarcity as a 1905 first edition with exceptionally preserved tissue guards, bright gilt, clean pages, and strong boards and features rarely found together in surviving copies of this L.C. Page Cathedral Series title.…
