Synopsis

Durante su visita a la Nueva Espana (1803-1804), el baron Alexander von Humboldt adquirio 16 fragmentos de documentos pictograficos indigenas que pertenecieron a la coleccion de Antonio Leon y Gama. Humboldt llevo dichos materiales a Alemania y ahora se encuentran resguardados en la Biblioteca Estatal de Berlin (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin). Entre estos documentos hay una larga tira con quince fojas de papel de amate pintada por un solo lado, conocida como Codice Humboldt Fragmento 1 (Ms. amer. 2). En 1940, en un pequeno pueblo tlapaneco de la costa chica de Guerrero, llamado Azoyu, salio a la luz un segundo fragmento del documento original.
