About this Item
[virtually as new, with very slight bumping to lower right corner of front cover, very faint edgewear to covers]. Trade PB (B&W photographs) A "collective biography of ten prominent film actresses of 1920s and 1930s," present profiles of: Billie Dove, Fay Wray, Annabella, Anita Page, Dorothy Lee, Marian Marsh, Constance Cummings, Evelyn Venable, Jean Muir, and Claire Trevor. The cover blurb describes these as "oral histories," but they aren't, really: each chapter consists of the author's introductory comment and career summary of the subject, followed by an edited-into-first-person-narrative version of a personal interview with each woman. The premise of the book is that each actress "offers a penetrating look at some of the most important historical developments in cinema," and that this approach constitutes "a counter-balance to a largely male view of the cinema's history by presenting it as it was lived and shaped by these women." ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this heavy oversize paperback; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.**** (If you wonder, by the way, why this copy of the book is priced somewhat higher than most other copies listed for sale online, it's because I'm a real bookseller and actually have the actual book that's pictured along with this listing. Most (if not all) of the others appear to me to be bookjackers; look up the term if you're unfamiliar with it. So if you'd like to receive this book, shipped to you promptly (because I don't have to source it from someplace else) and packaged with care, this is the one for you.). Seller Inventory # 28281
