Bird was born in Northern Nova Scotia in 1891.He wrote Maritime Provinces histories and travel books, war and military history works and many historical novels. He served two years on the war front in WW I with the 42nd Battalion, Black Watch of Canada. He lost his youngest brother in WW I and his only son who fought with The North Nova Scotia Highlanders in WW II. Bird wrote the regimental history of the North Novas in 1955 - No Retreating Footsteps. A Century at Chignecto was his very first book. This book, 235 pages, first edition is in near-fine condition. There are 3 photographs of historic sites. This is an important Nova Scotia work by one of the Provinces best known writers. A cornerstone work of any Bird collection.
