From Me To My Children

From Me to My Children discusses the paradoxes of parenthood, the conflicts of childhood, the uniqueness of each of us and the challenges of giving...these are some of the topics that Ricky Cohen addresses with honesty and charm in this debut anthology of Bubbles of Thought. These eighteen "bubbles" are presented with Ricky Cohen's characteristic sense of fun. The illustrations, like the Bubbles of Thought themselves, are clear yet colorful, sophisticated and playful. Through this outstanding combination of words and images Ricky Cohen conveys the utter joy that learning can bring into every day of our lives. He cleverly includes a bubble blower, a blindfold, a notepad and a spreadsheet, to inspire the reader to the beauty of his ideas.

That after which I struggle, is that of which I may share. Ricky Cohen began writing after twenty years of teaching and a lifetime of studying. Between the covers of his books, whether with the beguiling playfulness of the Bubbles trilogy or the deep discussions of The Tool Workbook series, he aims to capture the intimacy of personal conversation.

Cohen was born in 1958 into a pre-eminent New York retailing family. He entered the family business, the Conway Organization, and served as its CEO for a time. Under the leadership of Cohen and his family the company grew forty fold in ten years. There are now fifteen Conway department stores in New York City alone.

As a teenager, Cohen attended the Yeshiva of Flatbush. This wonderful experience opened up the world of serious study to him, and showed him the importance of the individual teacher in the learning process. When he went on to study at Bet Midrash Le Torah in Jerusalem, Cohen was greatly inspired by the scholars, in particular a Rabbi whose "eyes literally danced when he spoke." Cohen was determined to capture that joy of study for himself and his students.

Today, Cohen serves on the Board of Directors of the Conway Organization. He lives in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn where his father has helped build the largest Sephardic community in the world. Cohen and his wife, Jamie, have six sensational children.
