About this Item
Vol III Blank + frontispiece + Title page + iii (= vi) + blank + 186 pages + Vol IV frontispiece + Title page + I + blank + 187 pages + contents ( also over 70 illustrations within text & one double page). UndatedTitle pages but Vol III base of page one has January, 1853 & Vol IV base of page one has January, 1854. Condition; Quarter leather hardback in good condition condition, minor rubbing/wear/dirt. Contents mostly Very Good, clean & tight, the odd very minor mark, only a few corner tip folds, did no notice any inscriptions. Contents include lots of mostly very short stories etc., including; A drunken mouse, Absalom s tomb, Flying fish, How to come to Jesus, Marks of a thief, poetry, The rabbit, A happy new year (to each vol), Goat, Honest beggar boy, Mount Vesuvius, Last day of 1854, Prizes to Ragged scholars, rope bridge, The Isle of Wight etc., etc. It would seem this was a very cheap monthly magazine for children, with this early volumes produced yearly, not like the later editions that looked like were bound monthly volumes, This yearly volume has no monthly title pages. So to sum up, two volumes of a very rare magazine in very good condition with only the odd minor mark, A quick net check found no other copy for this edition, only found other editions in institutions, saw a few with same or similar titles, but not by/for the Ragged School Union, and at time of listing did not find any for sale.
