IAN FLEMING & JOHN BURNINGHAM (illustrator) - CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, published by Random House, copyright 1964, Stated First Printing (states "First Printing" on first line on copyright page - ONLY FOUND ON THE TRUE 1ST PRINTING and also has the 4 line "P.S." at the bottom of the dedication page - this 4-line P.S. was dropped on subsequent printings, the 2nd & 3rd printings are indistinguishable as they drop the "First Printing" reference but have no numberline - the numberline to denote printing state didn't start until the 4th printing), reference to Gibraltar Library Binding on rear cover, black & green illustrated endpapers with illustrated boards (illustration used on the trade dust jacket). NOTE - GIBRALTAR LIBRARY BINDING ("GLB") EDITION - INTENDED FOR LIBRARY USE (SO IT HAS STURDIER SEMI-GLOSSY ILLUSTRATED BOARDS AND THE GLB LOGO ON REAR BOARD WITH NO DUST JACKET - NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND THIS BOOK "CLEAN" (I.E. NEVER IN A LIBRARY). YOU COULD WAIT 20 YEARS BEFORE FINDING THIS BOOK AGAIN IN THIS CONDITION FOR SALE. IAN FLEMING WROTE THIS BOOK WHILE RECOVERING FROM A HEART ATTACK, AND IN THE U.K. DUE TO THE TIME IT WAS TAKING JOHN BURNINGHAM TO COMPLETE THE ILLUSTRATIONS THE BOOK WAS PUBLISHED IN 3 SEPARATE VOLUMES (THE FIRST 2 IN 1964 AND VOLUME 3 IN 1965), THIS U.S. 1ST PUBLICATION IS THE TRUE 1ST WORLDWIDE PRINTING OF THE COMPLETE STORY AS WELL AS THE 1ST WORLDWIDE PUBLICATION OF VOLUME 3 (WHICH WASN'T PUBLISHED IN THE U.K. UNTIL 1965). Book IS NOT EX-LIBRARY (NO LIBRARY MARKINGS/STICKERS/STAMPS INSIDE OR ON THE OUTER BOARDS) - no creased page corners, black top stain is nice without fading or drop spots, almost no age darkening/dust soiling to outer page edges which are still white (no foxing), endpapers are clean and free from any tape residue or discoloration or erasures, no tearing or splitting of page block from internal hinges, former owner's tiny name at top right on ffe otherwise no former owner's markings or used bookseller stamps inside, no wear to board edges or to board corners or to spine tips (tiny puncture on spine just up from the bottom), no color rubbing to boards (common defect with these GLB boards), no soiling or staining to boards, ever so slight spine sun yellowing, no bumped board corners. Overall a N-FINE book of an Ian Fleming U.S. 1st printing hardcover GLB edition book. I have a number of other U.S. and U.K. Ian Fleming James Bond 1st printing hardcover appearances up for sale.…
