IAN FLEMING & JOHN BURNINGHAM (illustrator) - CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, published by Random House, copyright 1964, Stated First Printing (states "First Printing" on first line on copyright page - ONLY FOUND ON THE TRUE 1ST PRINTING also has the 4 line "P.S." at the bottom of the dedication page - this 4 line P.S. was dropped on subsequent printings, the 2nd & 3rd printings are indistinguishable as they drop the "First Printing" reference but have no numberline - the numberline to denote printing states didn't start until the 4th printing), black & green illustrated endpapers with red cloth boards and gold gilt lettering to spine & front board, $3.50 price on DJ front flap. FLEMING WROTE THIS BOOK WHILE RECOVERING FROM A HEART ATTACK AND IN THE U.K. DUE TO THE TIME IT WAS TAKING JOHN BURNINGHAM TO COMPLETE THE ILLUSTRATIONS THE BOOK WAS PUBLISHED IN 3 SEPERATE VOLUMES (THE FIRST 2 IN 1964 AND VOLUME 3 IN 1965), THIS U.S. 1ST PUBLICATION IS THE TRUE 1ST WORLDWIDE PRINTING OF THE COMPLETE STORY AS WELL AS THE 1ST WORLDWIDE PUBLICATION OF VOLUME 3 (WHICH WASN'T PUBLISHED IN THE U.K. UNTIL 1965). Book has no creased page corners, flat white pages with sharp outer page corners, black top stain has no fading or drop spots, no foxing to pages or endpapers, barest hint of foxing/dust soiling to outer page edges (no age darkening), endpapers are clean and free from any tape residue or discoloration, no former owner's markings or used bookseller stamps/stickers inside (common with these children's books), no wear to board edges, corners or spine tips, no bumped board corners, no discoloration/soiling to boards. Dust jacket has no chipping or tearing or creasing, almost no wear to spine tips, no wear to front flap crease, no wear to left/right on spine, no color rubbing, no fading to Fleming name on spine AND ALMOST NONE OF THE USUAL SPINE SUN DARKENING, hint of edge wear, faint staining at bottom on front panel and age darkening/foxing to right edge on rear panel, hint of dust soiling to panels (common defect with this all white DJ), otherwise no soiling or staining. Overall a FINE-/N-FINE book in VG+ condition dust jacket (not price clipped) of an Ian Fleming U.S. 1st printing hardcover book.
