In a handsome Victorian Arts & Craft calf binding, decorated in blind, re-backed with original letter-piece gilt. Marbled end-papers, all edges red. Important puritan text by the Church of Ireland Bishop of Ardagh, John Richardson D.D. (born 1580), who held the post from 1633-1654. He had left Ireland before the rebellion of 1641 and died eventually in London in 1654. Previously he had been Archdeacon of Derry (1622-34), then Archdeacon of Down (1639-54). Item 71 in Spurgeon's Catalogue of Commentaries and Expositions, wherein it is said to be: of secondary importance, very short, yet good. Marginal worming to tail of pgs. 291-314 not affecting text.
