Rice, Anne. Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2005. First Edition. Hardcover with original dust jacket. A historical novel exploring the childhood of Jesus, written with careful attention to New Testament scholarship and historical context. Opening in Alexandria when Jesus is seven years old, the narrative follows his family's return to Nazareth and his growing awareness of his identity and powers. Rice blends meticulous research with literary storytelling, presenting a humanized and introspective portrait of a central religious figure. The work marks a significant shift in the author's career toward explicitly Christian themes. Bound in original dark cloth with gilt spine lettering and publisher's Borzoi imprint. Book is in Near Fine condition: tight binding, clean and unmarked pages, with only light handling visible. The original dust jacket is also Near Fine, unclipped, with mild edge wear and slight rubbing but no major tears or losses. Overall, a very well-preserved copy. Anne Rice (1941-2021) was an American novelist best known for The Vampire Chronicles, including Interview with the Vampire. Later in her career, she turned to religious themes following a return to Christianity, producing the Christ the Lord series. Her work is noted for its atmospheric style, psychological depth, and blending of historical detail with imaginative narrative.…
