Bright red cloth covered boards with author's initials within ears of corn illustration in gilt on the front panel; same illustration blind-stamped on back panel, gilt lettering and graphics on spine. Three b&w photos illustrations including frontispiece of Twain with tissue-guard. Spine is heavily sun faded. External page edges are age-darkened, and with faint indications of foxing. Gutter is split at title page and at pp. 266-267. Shadow transfer on back end paper and one place within text on pp. 52-53. Text pages are age-toned. A few occasional smudges, else internally clean.
