A vanishingly scarce first edition copy of this work on the restoration of church architecture and decorations. First edition in half calf binding with marbled boards. Extremely scarce copy of the work. Written by English classical scholar Frederick Apthorp Paley. This work presents the process of treating ancient and modern church architecture and decorations. With chapters on various types of churches, including The Saxon Church, The Monastery and The Castle. With a frontispiece of the tomb of Abbess Etheldreda. With a bookbinders label of Pelton, Tunbridge Wells, to the front paste down. In half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, generally smart, with slight rubbing, causing a loss to the leather at the extremities. Spine label is starting. A touch of fading to the spine and the occasional mark. Bookbinders label to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good.
