About this Item
The first quarter of this book (38 pages) is commentary on circus acts and history. The last 3/4 is marvelous full-page b/w drawings. No pagination. Read more about: tumblers, butting goat, Joe Jackson, Alois Peters, Flying Concellos, trapezists, drollery, tight-rope walker, Cirque d' Hiver, Canadian Wonders, and hand-springs. One of the INTRIGUES of this volume is the 1942 signature -verso half-title page. Seems to have an association to the author. Before this book, I didn't know about `the tan' at a circus, nor did I know of rosin-back horses. Cond : Boards are buff coloured with brown lettering. Dust jacket is missing. End-papers are pictorial. (Think: 75 clowns a chimpanzee and a bull. ) Very good in binding. Light soiling. Lught general wear. No names nor marks. Vintage collectible ! Quote (p. 11) : " This is not surprising, for it was Carl Hagenbeck who completely revolutionised the treatment of animals throughout the world in zoos and circuses and gave the circus its chance to survive. His two sons, Carl and Lorenz Hagenbeck, have brilliantly ._._._. ." Size: Quarto. Seller Inventory # 010562
