Hardcover book , First edition. Orange cloth lettered in gilt to spine on black panel, no dustjacket. 508pp. With 6 colour plates, 95 monochrome photos in plates and 4 line drawings in the text. The author was a conservator of paintings at the National Gallery. Includes bibliography and supplementary material by Joyce Plesters. A Good only copy. Covers clean and bright. Most pages clean but a few have large brown stains ( while used in a conservator's studio?) - though they do not prevent the text being clearly read. Also some smaller spot stains and browning to the closed page edges; front endpapers rather spotted and have name and small gift inscription . Pictures available.
