The Collected Papers of Stephen Smale, Volume 1

First edition, published in 2000 by Singapore University Press in association with World Scientific. Volume 1 of The Collected Papers of Stephen Smale, edited by F. Cucker and R. Wong. An important collection of papers by Stephen Smale, bringing together work from one of the major mathematicians of the twentieth century. This volume forms part of the original three-volume collected edition and gathers Smale's research across several areas of mathematics and related fields. Original hardcover in the publisher's glossy pictorial dust jacket. The book itself is in excellent condition, with firm binding and clean, bright pages. No ownership inscriptions, highlighting or textual annotation observed—originally bought by me but remains unread. The original dust jacket is complete and presents well, retaining strong colour and clear lettering. There is visible surface scratching and rubbing to the glossy laminate, particularly to the rear panel, together with minor handling wear. A commercial barcode/stock label remains attached to the lower rear panel. No substantial tears or losses. The copyright page carries the original 2000 publication information and shows no subsequent reprint statement, identifying this copy as a first-edition example of Volume 1. A particularly useful copy for a collector of modern mathematics, the history of twentieth-century mathematical thought, or the work of Stephen Smale.…
