Published in advance of Reymont's selection as Nobel laureate but the introduction notes that he had been nominated for the prize. Includes a frontspiece color illustration by Frederick Dorr Steele on which the publisher has pasted a credit line for Steele. Blue cloth with gilt titles, 499 pages.
