Chicago: R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co./The Lakeside Press, 1926. The Lakeside Press was the fine printing arm of R.R. Donnelley, which also had a more commercial side. This series of neglected titles began in 1903. These classics were not sold; they were gifted at Christmastime. Evidently no production records were kept, so the number of copies printed is unknown. Quercus surmises around 1500 in these early years. Dealing with the trade along the Santa-Fe Trail, this is another classic of American Western history from the Lakeside Press, This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition Thus [originally two volumes; Lakeside has abridged this]. Dark green cloth binding. Rled, titled, and decorated in gilt. Clean text. Frontispiece, xxii, 343 pages, with fold-out map and index. Edited by Milo Milton Quaife. Just hints of rub too the margins; else a Fine copy. First Edition Thus. Original Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
