Add to basketFirst edition. Orig. green cloth with dust wrapper by Vanessa Bell. Dust wrapper is slightly darkened on the spine panel and somewhat aged overall, and is chipped shallowly at right side of head of spine and more deeply on both sides of tail of spine, though no lettering is touched (the chip on the left side of the tail just grazes the "H" and "P" of "The/Hogarth/Press"). Back panel of dust wrapper, which is blank, has some chipping along the top edge and a few short tears along the lower edge. Upper right corner of front inside flap tattered, such that the last three letters in the line "The Common Reader" are affected, the "d" is grazed, the "e" is cut into, and the "r" is missing. The price is printed lower down in the flap. Tiny bit of darkening to cloth at foot of spine where protection of dust jacket was lacking, book otherwise very good to near fine. Laid into book are a four-page 16mo leaflet from the Hogarth Press "The Works of Virginia Woolf" and three tearsheets from a contemporary magazine with an article by Woolf, "The love of reading." Pencil name and date of 1936 on front flyleaf.
