Storrs Let not the music of the spinning wheel cease for want of flax Virtue is the highest exercise and improvement of union. N Storrs, Danvers." Owner "Nathaniel Storrs" was a member of the Storrs family, who had settled in Mansfield, Connecticut, in 1698. There are two notable Nathaniels in the family, one born in 1747, and his son, born in 1774. This book was most likely owned by Nathaniel Storrs, Jr., as he was the principal at the High School of Danvers, Massachusetts, in the 1800s, and like the author, graduated from Dartmouth. Nathaniel s father was a farmer in Lebanon and Hanover, New Hampshire. Author David Everett (1770 1813) was a Dartmouth-educated newspaper editor and lawyer. He established and edited the Boston Patriot, a semi-weekly paper devoted to the Democratic Party, which printed John Adams anti-Federalist essays after his term in office. Everett was also an essayist, poet, and occasional playwright, as seen in this volume. It is more than likely that Everett and Storrs knew each other, as the former graduated from Dartmouth in 1795, and the latter in 1796. REFERENCES: Evans 35454; Storrs, Charles.
