A crisp, bright, copy of Izaak Walton's noted work 'The Compleat Angler'. Being the first, de luxe edition adorned with Arthur Rackham's illustrations. Limited edition, number 426 of 775 copies printed. This copy is signed by Rackham to the limitation page.With a frontispiece, and eleven plates by Arthur Rackham. Collated, complete. During the "Golden Age" of British book illustration Rackham was one of its leading artists. Many of the works he illustrated were published in a De Luxe limited edition in addition to a smaller trade edition. This is one of the De Luxe editions, which were all bound in vellum bindings. Stylistically, Rackham"s illustrations reflected pen and India ink drawings. He used expressive line paired with a subtle use of watercolour to create his beautiful images.'The Compleat Angler' is Izaak Walton's best known work. It was edited and expanded by Walton for over a quarter of a century. The work is a celebration of fishing through prose and verse.The second part of this work is written by Walton's friend and fellow angler, Charles Cotton. In the publisher's original vellum binding. Externally, very smart. Light rubbing to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spine and to the extremities. Light ring mark to the front board.
