A lovely copy of the tercentenary edition of Izaak Walton's best known work, 'The Complete Angler'. Complete with Charles Cotton's continuation and notes by J E Harting. First thus, the first and only edition of this special tercentenary publication. With a memoir of Izaak Walton, and dedication to John Offley. 'The Compleat Angler' is Izaak Walton's best known work. It was edited and expanded by Walton for over a quarter of a century. The work is a celebration of fishing through prose and verse. Limited edition, this set is numbered forty-seven of three-hundred and fifty copies produced. Provenance: The Library of Colin and Joan Deacon. In the smart publisher's quarter vellum bindings. To this edition a large selection of additional footnotes have been added regarding the bibliographical history of the work, and the author's own sources. There are several new illustrations included too. With fifty-three illustrations in total, being 43 full page engravings on Japon paper. The plates are engraved by Audinet Linnel, with twelve in-text engravings after drawings by GE Lodge. A truly lovely set of this famous homage to angling. In quarter vellum bindings with cloth covered boards. Externally, in a lovely condition with just some minor marks to the spines as expected with vellum. Bumping to the head and tail of spines. Light bumping to the extremities. A few marks to the boards. Minor offsetting to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd light spots. Near Fine.
