An Introduction provides a brief history of Washington and a discussion on the development of Beaux Arts design in the United States. Jennings et al review nineteen separate and three ensemble structures most of which were designed in the Beaux Arts tradition and several of which are no longer extant: 1013-15 L Street, 1205 Vermont Avenue, 1500 Rhode Island Avenue, 1328 Connecticut Avenue, 1500 and 1511 New Hampshire Avenue, 1520 20th Street, as well as 1101, 1107, 1219, 1400-02, 1601, 1732, 1826, 1913, 2000, 2025, 2122, 2305, 2929, 3000, and 3100 Massachusetts Avenue. The summaries on the individual structures feature architectural commentary and brief biographies of known residents as well as the attributed architect; among the latter are Alfred Bult Mullett, Glenn Brown, John Russell Pope, Jules Henri de Sibour, Nathan Corwith Wyeth [N.C.
