Before becoming known for "Rosemary's Baby,'' Levin wrote this chilling, fictionalized account of the true kidnapping/murder case of the 1920s, billed at that time as the "Crime of the Century.'' Nathan Leopold ("the slave") & Richard Loeb (the "Superman"), two brilliant college students, decided to commit the perfect crime by kidnapping & murdering a boy from their wealthy Chicago suburb, Bobbie Franks. Clarence Darrow, in one of the most impassioned speeches of his career, saved the teenagers from the death penalty. Levin's book was made into a movie in 1959 with Dean Stockwell & Orson Welles. This is the FIRST PRINTING from Nov. 1957 of this First Mass Market Paperback edition from Cardinal Pocket Books (#GC-756). Condition is solidly Good: completely clean, with minor edgewear & light creasing to spine. Some dogeared corners on early pages. Pages are tanned & rather brittle, but completely unmarked.
