Zine/Artist's books. "Computer Buddy", Dec. '78, is an artwork by the punk cult art collective World Imitation Productions active in Los Angeles from 1977 to 1982. 30 issues/art zine/chapbooks were published 30 issues that the collective created during their brief time together and sold in record and punky clothing stores around Los Angeles. Their neo-dada collaged and graphic creations are an absurdist commentary on the Southern California environment of the late 1970s. Emerging as creators of collaged and photocopied mail art and publications in the late 1970s, World Imitation is perhaps best known in its musical incarnation, the bandMonitor, which was active between 1978 and 1982, with live performances as well as two self-produced 7" singles and one LP. Growing up in the paranoia and false optimism of mid-century suburban Southern California, the collective explored topics as disparate as exotica, psychedelia, pranks, UFOs, the paranormal, revolutionary politics, and Disneyland as subjects of anthropological research.
