Techniques used in the study were: search of the medical computing literature primarily related to ambulatory medical care; mail survey of medical computing projects and state health departments in fifty states; discussions with medical computing researchers; review of Department of Health, Education and Welfare funded projects; and interaction with computer and medical information system vendors.
