A scarce first edition of 'Concerning Subud' by J.G. Bennett, accompanied by an original handwritten draft of a letter, which is assumed to be addressed to Alan Watts, the influential interpreter of Eastern philosophy in the West. The draft letter (writer unknown) discusses a proposed visit to England and invites Watts to Brussels to give talks, referencing shared spiritual circles and acquaintances. Though unsent, it offers a revealing glimpse into the active network linking Bennett's Subud work with leading figures in mid-20th century Western spirituality. The letter also references 'Humphreys' possibly a connection to Christmas Humphreys, a prominent figure in British Buddhist and esoteric circles, further situating the document within an important intellectual milieu. Condition - Good: a sound, complete copy with moderate wear to the boards and edges; binding firm and secure. 186pp. Pages generally clean with expected age toning. The original paper dust jacket is fragile, with a tear and creasing consistent with age. There are several pencil annotations throughout, though not extensive. Overall, a solid and serviceable example, with the accompanying handwritten draft letter well preserved. An appealing association copy for collectors of Gurdjieff material, Subud history, and Alan Watts-related ephemera.…
