In early 1970, President Nixon ordered an invasion of Cambodia, which had been neutral during the Vietnam War, and the bombing of Cambodia and Laos, which had also been neutral, with the goal of interupting Viet Cong supply lines that were operating through both countries. This raised a huge protest across the US, and one of the opposing arguments was that the President did not have the legal authority to widen the war without Congressional approval. As opposition to the Vietnam War had grown, there was also a continuing debate over whether the original Gulf of Tonkin Resolution in 1964, which gave approval to President Johnson at the time to undertake military action in the first place. This volume records the hearings that took place in 1970 to evaluate what war powers the President did have and should have. This copy is fine in beige wrappers.
