About this Item
First edition. 16mo. 128pp. Pictorial wrappers. Permanent marker lines on page edges, thus very good. A guide to *Contentville* which was a website created in 2000 by Steven Brill that aimed to bring together the best of several kinds of content in one location. Brill wanted to create an online store that sold "magazines and books at great prices and with lightning-fast delivery." The site sold books, magazine subscriptions, and collected news articles from over 1,800 magazines, journals, and newspapers. Magazine experts, cultural leaders, owners of independent bookstores, and others in their areas of expertise helped select the content for *Contentville*. This book features a number of those consultants and their opinions including Keith Olbermann on sports magazines, Elizabeth Crow on women's and parenting magazines, Timothy Ferris on science magazines, along with contributions by Wendy Wasserstein, Ira Glass, and many more. The website shut down after only 14 months following controversy concerning royalty payments, and became another victim of the dot-com crash. An interesting relic from the days when selling content on the internet was still an uncertain business model. Scarce. Seller Inventory # 588121
