Item description from seller

Store description

Hare Books (Unless Specified otherwise) are Ex libris of the Professor, Canadian Historian, Author and Bibliophile John Ellis Hare (1933-2005) Some of Hare's Publications: Les Patriotes, 1830-1839, 1971, La Pensée socio-politique au Québec, 1784-1812, 1977 En collab. John Hare's French Canadian collection is an excellent demonstration of the history of the Canadian Printing Press in Quebec and Ontario. Hare extensively collected prolific French Canadian Authors. These books are usually critical first editions at various impressions and signed by the author. The collection I have is chiefly 1850-1950. This Canadian collection is often rarer books, signed by author and impressions and/or editions not found elsewhere. I am selling off the modern parts of the John Hares personal collection to continue to preserve and donate these books to rare book and special collection libraries at various Universities in Ontario. I would like to also donate these to National Libraries. I am a Librarian who studied rare books and the history of the book at McGill University. I also specialized in Archives. My interests is the preservation/collection of rare books and I have briefly worked at Library and Archives Canadas preservation center. I have worked with Documentary filmmakers in preserving film, photographs, and letters. I currently work at the University of Ottawa, and the Ottawa Public Library. I have a good eye for collecting and finding rare books myself. I am listing my own books- chiefly Canadiana treasures that I find in my own travels as well! Hare has really inspired me to become a bookseller through his own love of books and history- he continues to teach and inspire me with his collection. Please support this endeavor to preserve our documentary heritage and feel free to email me if you have any questions at all.
