Item description from seller

The format is approximately 7 inches by 9.4 inches. 272 pages Illustrations. Index. DJ has slight wear and soiling. Foreword by Vincent Scully. The John W. Cook Interviews with Architects consist of recorded interviews conducted with American architects prominent in the mid-to-late 20th century. These interviews were recorded by Cook and Heinrich Klotz in 1969-1970 and largely transcribed in their book Conversations with Architects. Dr. Cook, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, was a passionate advocate of theological education and a pioneer in the area of Religion and the Arts. Rev. Cook resided as Pastor of River Oaks Baptist Church (1963-1965) and 1st Congregational Church of Derby, CT (1965-1968) before being called to teaching. He received a Master's of Divinity from Yale Divinity School, a Master's of Philosophy from Yale, a doctorate in theology at the University of Bonn, and earned a Ph.D. in Art and Architecture at Yale. He received many honors and fellowships throughout his career. Of the many were the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Architects, and Professor Emeritus from Yale. For 28 years he taught courses on Christianity and the Arts at Yale Divinity School, where he also hosted colloquia and organized European study trips. He later became Director of the Yale Institute of Sacred Music (1984-1992), which he served until his appointment as President of the Henry Luce Foundation (1992-2002). Dr. Cook, an author of ten books, is remembered especially for Conversations with Architects (1973) and Louis I. Kahn in Conversation (2015). "Heinrich Klotz was a man driven by his visions. Following his work as professor of art history at the renowned University of Marburg - where he taught numerous students who would later become prominent in their respective fields, such as Horst Bredekamp from the Humboldt University Berlin and Klaus Schrenk, former Director General of the Bavarian State Painting Collections in Munich - he began an explosive decade of founding institutes, which resulted in the »Deutsche Architekturmuseum« in Frankfurt am Main, in 1984; the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, in 1989; and the Karlsruhe University for Arts and Design, in 1992. As historian, author, teacher, theorist, museum and university founder, no German intellectual after 1945 has shaped the German art and cultural scene as greatly as Heinrich Klotz. His theories on the revision of architectural modernity, on the second modernity, and on the expansion of the concept of art in terms of media are irreversible theoretical foundations on the basis of which the future is created." (Peter Weibel, Chairman of the ZKM).
