The subtitle does this cookbook a disservice, for the main advantage of Herbst's 300-plus recipes is that many of them can be prepared ahead--not that they use the food processor, microwave, or blender in any special ways. Herbst, a food writer and author, includes dishes inspired by a wide variety of cuisines, most of them sophisticated enough for guests, but designed to be as "hassle-free" and streamlined as possible for today's busy cook.
