Interesting personal account of the defence of Calais in May 1940 by an Officer in the Queen Victoria Rifles. This 4 page account is by 2/Lt. L.Lucas who after considerable action managed to escape from the shore in a small boat and was rescued by the Royal Navy, unlike most of those engaged who were either casualties or captured. This account was circulated to some of the families of men who became prisoners. Other Officers are named and the intensity of the battle and losses comes across in the description. This "copy" was produced at the time and is now quite scarce. Some minor creases and slight rust close to staple.
