"One of the earliest exhaustive treatises on modern plastic surgical techniques applied to cosmetic problems." Joseph Safian (1886-1983), renowned plastic surgeon, was trained by father of rhinoplasty; Jacques Joseph of Germany in the 1920'S; and; with Aufricht; introduced his methods to the U.S. in the 1930's. Joseph Safian "deserve great credit for bringing Joseph's accomplishments to the attention of English-speaking surgeons. Safian's 1935 book; Corrective Rhinoplastic Surgery; was so clearly written that it contributed to the more widespread adoption of many of Joseph's procedures. Joseph did originate most of the variations in intranasal operative techniques that are used today; and he was responsible for the development of most of the rhinoplastic instruments now used." Blair 0. Rogers; John Orlando Roe--Not Jacques Joseph-- The Father of Aesthetic Rhinoplasty. Aesth. Plast. Surg. 10 (1986); (pp.63-88); p.83 "Joseph Safian deserves great credit for bringing the attention of English-speaking surgeons to the work of Jacques Joseph; and also for a number of additions of his own. His book Corrective Rhinoplastic Surgery (1935) is a model of clear writing and description; it resulted in the widespread adoption of Joseph's procedures and the development of acceptable rhinoplastic surgery in this country." Frank McDowell; History of Rhinoplasty. Aesthetic Plastic Surgery 1:321-348; 1978.
