A Fine unmarked copy with complete dustjacket which has some foxing to the reverse side. Foreword by M.M. Kaye. A marvellous account of Indian costumes and people during the British Raj. The water colour paintings by Miss Cecil Elgee illustrate the lost India and were painted in India between 1922-1927 and depict different castes and creeds. Evelyn Battye's text reflects her long association with India and her first hand knowledge of the people and customs, interspersed with anecdotes of these idiosyncratic and colourful characters. *** NOT EX LIB *** 23 Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
